A story about a little duck with a big dream and his lonesome journey to New York City in hopes of bringing his ducky dance to the Broadway stage. Along the way, issues of courage, self-esteem, friendship and encouragement are addressed. There’s a strong urge to cheer on this little guy in this never-give-up-on-your dreams narrative. The album includes 12 happy-go-lucky songs such as “Quack, Quack, Quack” and “I Love Tomatoes.” Quirky and fun artwork adds to the book’s jovial tone.

EN ESPAÑOL La historia-canción que da título al libro es sobre un patito de la pradera que tiene un gran sueño – ir a la cuidad de Nueva York y hacer su baile de patito en Broadway. Su viaje aventurero parece condenado al fracaso, hasta que conoce a una camionera llamada Gran Betty. Ella le señala la dirección correcta y le da el empujoncito que necesita para afrontar la Gran Manzana. Canciones adicionales presentan a caimanes que bailan el vals a la medianoche, niñas que cantan fuera de tono para que les arrojen tomates y babosas que cantan opera y salen a hurtadillas en la noche para bailar el boogie-woogie.

Connie Kaldor is considered “one of Canada’s most significant contemporary folk performers” (Billboard Magazine). She has toured around the world, received five Junos and a Western Literature Award, and is a member of the Order of Canada. Her song, “Wood River” is considered by many to be the quintessential Prairie folk ballad. Her publications include A Duck in New York City, A Poodle in Paris, and Lullaby Berceuse.

The duo Fil & Julie (Philippe Arseneau Bussières and Julie Saint-Onge Drouin) have illustrated several albums, including Gratien Gratton prince de la gratouille, Fanfaron, À l’école des petits magiciens and Time for Bed.
