Illustrations Sophie Casson Singers Sin and Swoon
Original illustrations, rich in color and texture, offer an endearingly offbeat rendering of this cherished timeless folk song. It takes on a life of its own becoming a stand-alone story featuring several zany characters including an acrobatic pink-haired roller-skater girl, a straw hat-wearing unshaven hillbilly astronaut and a banjo-playing cow-loving weasel. A recording of the song is included.
Montréal’s Sin and Swoon is made up of Ottawa Valley native Michael James O’Brien and Antigonish, Nova Scotia’s Michelle Tompkins. The folk roots singer-songwriter duo have been featured on CBC and NPR radio, and have backed bands such as Patrick Watson, The Barr Brothers, Plants and Animals, and Thus:Owls. Their debut album, Did I Turn the Oven Off, was released in 2016.
Sophie Casson is an award-winning illustrator based in Montréal.
